Full-Line Commissioning of Huaxi Special Steel's Bulb Flat Steel Production Line Undertaken by MCC Huatian Electrical Company
On September 12, the 550 and 500 small-size bulb flat steel production lines of Huaxi Special Steel, undertaken by MCC Huatian Electrical Company, completed trial operation with the first billet successfully passing through the entire line. As of press time, the production lines have been fully put into operation, marking the complete commissioning and mass production of all bulb flat steel production lines for Huaxi Special Steel's transformation and upgrading. This is another achievement of MCC Huatian in serving customers' transformation through technological innovation, further enriching the company's engineering portfolio in the bulb flat steel and L-shaped steel production line sector.
The project covers multiple mill types, including 850 blooming, 750 semi-continuous rolling, and 550 and 500 full continuous rolling mills. Product specifications cover the full series of 80–430 mm marine bulb flat steel and 200–450 mm marine L-shaped steel, meeting the multi-variety, multi-specification production demands of marine section steel. Previously, the 850 area had been in production for nearly two months, with its production mode and products having obtained classification society certification. With the 550 area now in operation, the project has further improved its marine section steel production system, enabling one-stop order delivery and earning recognition from major shipyard customers. The full-line commissioning now provides strong support for Huaxi Special Steel's product structure adjustment and marine section steel market expansion.
During construction, the electrical team overcame numerous challenges through innovation:
- 1. To address the mismatch between bulb flat steel rolling capacity and finished-product collection capacity, an innovative "two lines in one" layout solution was adopted for the reheating furnace and collection areas. In single-line production, the collection areas of both lines can be utilized to boost overall output. For different order demands, the rolling mode can be flexibly switched to achieve one-stop production of various specifications, balancing production efficiency and organizational flexibility.
- 2. To tackle difficulties in cooling bed entry for large and small-size products and product bending caused by asymmetric stress, a multi-section cooling bed was adopted, fully leveraging the flexible segmentation capabilities of the continuous rolling flying shear and semi-continuous rolling hot saw to optimize the cooling bed collection process.
- 3. The automatic steel feeding function is synchronized with rolling rhythm, reducing mill idle time and lowering power consumption.
- 4. Fully utilizing the site's terrain and elevation differences, the blooming mill, semi-continuous rolling mill and continuous rolling mills were rationally arranged across two bays, achieving compact layout and smooth process flow.
To date, MCC Huatian has undertaken multiple projects, including Changshu Longteng's 350, 450, 580, 650, 850 and 1050 production lines, Zhejiang Jiangfeng's 750 and 650 production lines, and Huaxi Special Steel's 850 and 550 production lines. Together with the recently commissioned Masteel high-performance marine L-shaped steel demonstration line upgrade project, MCC Huatian continues to accumulate process optimization and engineering implementation experience through cross-project technical synergy, steadily consolidating its professional edge in the section steel production line sector.
